Stuart Paton

One Day Street Photography Workshop.

‘Self-Expression And The Creative Mindset.'

It would be dishonest of me to promise you the world - but I can at least suggest a different way of photographing it. Beyond artificial categories, stale formulas and surface seduction, I'll propose the development of a personal perspective allowing your photography to become an intrinsic and more satisfying part of your life. It's not an exclusively 'street photography' workshop so can benefit anyone pursuing photographic self-expression whatever their kink. The day will be a mixture of theory and practice, sacred and profane : portfolio reviews, creative mindset, optimal image construction, sourcing visual language and personal themes et cetera. And of course we'll chance our luck on the streets of Dublin.

Suitable for serious beginners and above, with the only requirements being an open mind and a semblance of enthusiasm. I promise I'll do everything I possibly can to help. If necessary I'll take a bullet for you. And while I can't guarantee it'll be 'fun', I believe it won't leave you indifferent and you'll travel home with a mild headache and a hatful of ideas.

Tuna Angel

Half Day Street Photography Workshop.

Dublin Flirts Back: Candid Chaos with Tuna Angel.

Dublin Street Photography Festival half day workshop. Let’s hit the streets of Dublin for close-up shooting full of character!

I usually shoot at about 1.5 meters with flash, but relax: flash lovers and/or natural-light heroes are ALL invited!

Working with flash in candid street takes a bit of courage… but the secret is simple: warm communication, genuine connection, and reading people with kindness. Once you get that right, doors open — and portraits come alive.

Believe me, Dubliners make it even easier. Last year, while working on my Dublin Series’25, I was struck by their kindness, openness, and vibrant spirit in every portrait. I left with a promise to return… and here I am, coming back again.

This time together, let’s turn Dublin into our visual playground. Glowing pub windows with people sipping beer or wine in front, the cobblestones, Georgian doors, bus stops, shop windows, posters — all of it becomes character, color, symbolism and storytelling. We’ll look for those fast everyday moments and turn them into layered, cinematic, human scenes. With the subject in front as a focal point, you will learn how to build layers for further storytelling. You will learn how to detect a promising scene beforehand and have patience to set the right moment to click.

You will learn how to approach people with confidence, build trust in seconds, and make courage feel natural — not scary.

This workshop is perfect for:

• Street photographers wanting more boldness and instinct

• Candid portrait lovers working in real, lively streets

• Anyone who wants images that feel symbolic, layered, humorous and human

• Curious photographers open to trying flash — or skipping it

This isn’t just a workshop. It’s a new way of approach and seeing. Feedbacks on your photographs will further improve your insight.

You’ll walk away with:

• A refreshed visual mindset

• Strong, layered, story-rich images

• Real confidence in photographing strangers

• A deeper sense of how symbols and iconography shapes your visual voice

Let’s flirt with Dublin together.

Let’s see the city through a mythic, playful lens.

Let’s meet — and truly greet — the Dubliners.

Beginners welcome.

Curious minds encouraged.

Brave hearts celebrated.

Flash or no flash — whatever your vibe, come join us.

Our mission is to create together.

The British-born, New York-based photographer Phil Penman has documented the ever-changing scene of New York City’s streets for more than 25 years. In his career as a news and magazine photographer, with a large body of work in such publications as The Guardian, The Independent, The New York Review of Books, among others, he has photographed major public figures and historical events. In particular, his reportage following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center has featured on NBC’s Today show, as well as on the BBC, History Channel, and Al Jazeera, and his images have been included in the 9/11 Memorial and Museum’s archives.

His work covering the pandemic lockdown in New York City has been acquired by the U.S. Library of Congress, whose collection holds work by such great Depression-era documentarians as Walker Evans and Dorothea Lange. Besides showing at Leica galleries in New York, Washington, D.C., Boston, and London, Penman’s signature street photography has appeared in international exhibitions as far afield as Venice, Berlin, and Sydney.

He also tours the world teaching workshops on photography for Leica Akademie. He was recently named among the “52 Most Influential Street Photographers,” alongside such legends as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Sebastião Salgado, Diane Arbus, and Garry Winogrand. Penman’s first book, Street, published in 2019, became a best-seller and was featured at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
